Lean Manufacturing and 6 Sigma
XTech embraces the principles of Lean Manufacturing in order to minimize the effects of key waste factors — e.g., waiting, excess inventory, operator motion, transportation, scrap-and-rework, overprocessing and overproducing. We also adhere to 6 Sigma principles designed to improve existing products and services, to integrate voice of the customer and to use simulation models that help us predict new process and product performance.

How XTech applies the tools of Lean and 6 Sigma

XTech has implemented a range of new programs designed to reduce waste and optimize its manufacturing environment. Those programs include:

  • 5S, workplace organization to improve process, information and production workflow
  • The Kaizen approach to effecting continuous improvement through teamwork, individual commitment, discipline, quality adherence and openness to change
  • Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED), to reduce setup time
  • Continuous batch size reduction
  • Reducing bottlenecks by eliminating constraints, improving utilization and diversification of equipment, and reducing equipment downtime through Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) strategies
  • Pull systems, in which product is drawn through the factory at the pace of the customer
  • Point-of-use inventory
  • Point-of-use tools and materials
  • Understanding and reducing variability
